The Last Peletier

It was a stormy night, the prison’s fences were too noisy — due to the strong windstorm — allowing walkers go to there. Lizza and Mika were hugging themselves to sleep, while the other children cried with a lightning illuminating their cell room. Judith was frightened too, and Carl was about to blow out.
Beth came to cell block C, and held her to sing a calmness song. Judi became to be quiet at the same moment she started to sing, and a pretty good smile appeared in her face.
“You don’t have to be afraid, sweetie. It’s just a passing rain.”
After that, Carl started to re read his comics and whispered to himself “Thank God, a minute of silence.”
A few minutes later, Daryl went in there with a light pink pair of boots in his backpack. His hair was totally soaked and seems to be a really hard rain out there.
“I found it in a baby’s store, and hope little ass kicker likes it.” Rick took that and helped Daryl to stow all the other things he found out.
“Yeah, I’m sure she will.” he said. “...thank you.”.
“Nothin’” Daryl answered going to the other cell block to make sure everything was well.
The time passes quickly since the storm began, and probably — according to the Rick’s clock — it was dinner time at the prison. At the cafeteria, some kids were eating sope, and now there was no afraid in their faces like before. Carl was following Beth to there, and he decided to stay a little to have a meal.
“Hey Carl.” greeted Lizzie. “What are you doing? I didn’t see you today”
“Reading comics all afternoon… and you?” he seems a little embarassed talking to the blond girl.
“Just a little scared with the lightnings, I can sleep with it and my sister is feeling the same way.”
“Don’t be afraid, nothing bad will happen. Absolutely nothing.” he calmed the girl.
“Trust him” Beth confirmed smiling
“It isn’t the same… since yesterday, you know?” she started with her green eyes full of tears. “My father and then Nick… now Carol it’s my adoptive mother. I do not feel safe.”
“You should, Liz.” Carl consoled and Beth felt a little sad “I lost my mother, Beth too.”
“Yeah…”
“I lost my parents and Nick”
“Nick was a walker, he wasn’t alive, he didn’t feel nothing but eat people and kill. You’re being stupid” he started to be angry with her
“No! You’re being stupid.”
“Kids, stop!” Beth screamed “I’ll call Carol to take care of you all.” she finished leaving them alone.
“Congrats, dumb.” she scoffed.
In less then ten minutes, Carol appeared at the door and she had a worried expression.
“What… what happened?” Mika asked.
“Excuse me?”
“You do not seem very well.”
“I’m just tired.” she coughed. “Why don’t you go there to talk to the other kids?”
Mika and Lizzie went to the chairs and got some spaghetti, and at the same moment Carl didn’t move.
“What’s the problem?”
“None, just… i don’t have anything to talk with them. Patrick died, now i dont have any friends… again.” he was going to his cell, to read one more time.
“They’re your friends.” he did not agree and she continued: “I need to talk to you, out there
They went to the yard, and she was tremendous. Everyone were at the cafeteria or cell block C, so, they were alone.
“I’ve got a problem.”
“What can I do to help?” he asked suspiciously.
“No one can help.” she said, crying a lot. “No one, really.”
He became to be scaried, and she up her right sleeve. On her arm, there were a bite gushin’ blood and swollen.
“Oh, Carol… How… how?” he was speachless at all.
“I just wanted to help, just it.” she paused and continued: “I can’t tell Rick and i can’t amputated my arm either… it’s too late to do something”
“Hey, calm down! We’ll solve this. I’ll tell my father and the others, can you wait here?” she confirmed with her head but didn’t say anything.
Carl ran to cell block C and Beth were there with Judith. Rick was sitting reading a book while Daryl organized the weapons on the table.
“Daryl, dad… I’ve bad news.” they looked to him in a different way.
“Did someone get the Flu?” Rick asked worried, closing the book and standing up.
“Worse. Carol was bitten.” He told to his dad shocked, trying to believe in that.
“Bitten?” Beth wondered, she was with Carol some minutes ago and she was ok.
“Are you kidding, right?” Rick was not believing either. “It is impossible.”
“No, it is not. We need to do something, she’ll die soon.”
Beth stayed with Judi at her room, Daryl and Rick went with Carl to the yard. Carol was sitting in the floor, watching the walkers trying to walk in.
“Don’t shoot me… please.” she pleaded stopping to crying.
“We won’t.” Rick answered quickly.
Carl went back watching the scene without saying anything. He didn’t like Carol since Sophia died, but he thought she didn’t deserve to die that way. That’s why he didn’t care so much.
“How?” Daryl asked.
“Trying to protect the fences before the rain starts, i just felt something burning on my skin and when I saw…”
“No problem, Carol.” Rick interrupted her. “We’ll stay here with you.”
“Lizzie and Mika… they need to know this… I don’t think I’ll can wait more time.”
“I’ll bring them over here.” Daryl said going inside.
Carl was ready to shoot her if someone need to do it, and Rick was talking to her. She stopped to cry because she needed to seem calm and normal. The girls came to her direction slower.
“Carol? Are you okay?” Mika couldn’t control her emotions, different of Lizzie, who was serious.
“Yes, I am dear.” she hugged Carol like it was the last time… actually, it was the last time.
Daryl leaned himself against the wall.
“Aren’t you going to say something to Carol?” Daryl asked.
“No. Will you?”
“I’m not good with words… even when it is a goodbye.”
They came back to the girls, and Lizzie stilled with no reaction. Carol was weak, more then some minutes later. She might return as walker in a few moments.
“I really hope you defeat the governor... if he comes back.” she continued, a deep breath later. “Liz, I’m really sorry.”
“It’s fine. I think is the rule of the life now: When you care with someone, the person die. It is always the same.” she took Carl’s gun, and pointed it to Carol’s face. “Now I can do this.”
“Sis, don’t!” Mika screamed. Daryl pulled her, or Lizzie would shoot immediately.
“I have to do this.” Rick was surprised with the blonde girl, everyone was. “Carol I’m sorry.”
“No problem. Don’t forget that everyone here are your family now.” she said her lasts words before close her eyes.
“I won’t.”
Lizzie shot Carol, and Daryl finally allowed Mika to go. The walkers heard the gunshot, but the heavy rain was mixed with that.
“We’ll bury her tomorrow morning.” Carl said after long minutes quiet.

Everyone agreed and returned to cell block C, now, the prison had less one person.
